Immigration Q&A

Tuesday, January 14th, 7 - 8:30 PM

Holy Faith will welcome Dee Dee McVety, Director for Faith-Centered Engagement at Samaritas Ministry, & Jessica Beamer, Chair of the ELCA SEMI Synod Immigration & Refugee Task Force for an educational and empowering evening.

Ms. McVety and Ms. Beamer will begin by providing a basic immigration primer as to what current terms and laws mean. They will share their experience working with refugee and asylum seeking individuals and families and reflect on their participation in a border immersion experience.

Next, they will field our questions about immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Michigan.

A collection will be taken to benefit Samaritas.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Kids’ Workshop

When:

Monday, January 20th, 2025

(a public school holiday) 10:30 am - 12:30 PM, concludes with a pizza lunch

Where:

Holy Faith Church Parish Hall

What:

The workshop is a multi-age event, for ages 0 through 12 years  old. One parent or caregiver is asked to stay with a family group of children. The target audience is ages 5-10. Younger children may need the assistance of a parent; older children may take a leadership role if they wish. The morning will start with gathering activities, including packing sack lunches for Hope Clinic in Ypsilanti, followed by a story that tells about the life and ministry of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. After the story, there will be an activity to help reinforce the story of his life and work, and then the workshop will conclude with a short movie and a pizza lunch.

The two thematic emphases will be:

1) God loves the children of the world; and

2) Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve (a famous quotation of MLK, Jr.)

RSVP:

There is no charge for this workshop, but please RSVP by the previous Friday, so that we can provide enough pizza and materials: andrea@holy-faith-church.org
